Anne was born on January 12, 1937, in Nashville, TN, the daughter of Claude and Zenobia (Westfall) Spence. She married George Bourgeois on September 28, 1957 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on December 15, 2008.

Anne was a caring and nurturing person who led by example. As a registered nurse, Anne worked in surgery for 40 years at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital. She cherished the friendships made through nursing, even traveling to meet up with fellow retired nurses monthly. Family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, were important to Anne. She always encouraged staying in touch and having a relationship with loved ones. Anne also loved the time spent traveling with her husband George. She enjoyed sewing and always had a book in her hand. As a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, she devoted time helping the church and school, most recently the sixth-grade class. Anne was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Anne is survived by her sons, Paul Bourgeois of Mahomet, and John (Amber) Bourgeois of Collierville, TN; daughter, Lisa (Jon) Schafer of Effingham; grandchildren, Micki (Eric) Esker, Nicole Bourgeois, Sara Bourgeois, Doug Bourgeois, Dawson Schafer, Jaxson Bourgeois, and Cooper Bourgeois, great-grandchildren, Mitch and Morgan Esker, Braydan Blankenship, and Robby Shugart IV; siblings, Sue Poe, Barb Murphy, Joan Gouchenouer, Terri (Ray) Levingston, and Peter (Deb) Spence; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friend, Chitra Nayak.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; sisters, Catherine Bliss and Jeanne Derry; and brothers, Mack Spence, Jack Spence, and Lad Spence.
