Matthew Michael McKinney, age 46, of Effingham, Illinois, passed away at 12:18 PM – Sunday, June 4, 2023, at his home.
Funeral services celebrating Matthew’s life will be held at 11:00 AM – Friday, June 9, 2023, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham, Illinois. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service. In loving memory of Matthew, memorials may be made to the Oil Belt Christian Camp. Matthew was born on October 20, 1976, in Blue Island, Illinois, the son of Michael J. and Tina (Poe) McKinney. He graduated from Sandburg High School in Orland Park with the Class of 1995. After high school he attended and graduated from Eastern Illinois University and Southern Illinois University. He also attended Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.
Matthew was a teacher and taught college English. He attended First Baptist Church in Effingham and was an avid reader.
Matthew is survived by:
Parents – Mike and Tina McKinney of Dieterich, Illinois
Grandmother – Virginia McKinney of Dieterich, Illinois
Aunt – Shelia Burrell of Mattoon, Illinois
Uncle – Jeff (Kelly) McKinney of Fleetwood, North Carolina
Several cousins also survive.
Matthew was preceded in death by his infant twin brothers Nathaniel Scott McKinney, and Andrew Michael McKinney, grandparents Jerry McKinney, Wilma and Thomas Poe.
