Mary Ann Gumbel, 84, of Sailor Springs passed away at 5:17 am Sunday, March 26, 2023 at her home in Sailor Springs surrounded by her family.
She was born on July 7, 1938, in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Frank and Tillie (McGraw) Semick. She was the youngest of 5 children born to Frank and Tillie. She graduated from Academy of Lady Catholic all girls high school in 1956. Mary Ann married her high school sweetheart Robert Gumbel on August 3, 1956, in Peoria, Illinois, and they shared 48 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on August 25, 2004.
Mary Ann is survived by her 2 children: Becky (Bill) Ikemire of Louisville, David W. Gumbal of Louisville; 4 grandchildren: Scott (Elizabeth) Ikemire of Louisville, Greg (Emily) Gumbel of Louisville, Matthew (Jennifer) Gumbel of Kentucky, Heather (Jake) Cooley of Breese; 10 great grandchildren: Keea, Keenan, Kyia, Kail, Jackson, Nevaeh, Madelyn, Khole, Axle, and Halle; 2 cousins: Jim Semick of California, and Diana Pinizzi of Peru, Illinois.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters: Betty (Louie) Stone, Patricia (Odis) Clanin, Eileen Simpson; brother: Art (Maureen) Semick.
It was Mary Ann’s wishes for cremation, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mary Ann’s memory to Clay County Hospice.
