James "Jim" Fletcher Heflin (78) of Flora

James “Jim” Fletcher Heflin, 78, of Flora passed away at 7:55 pm Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the Clay County Hospital in Flora.

James was born on January 18, 1945 in Saline County, Illinois the son of James “Coley” Alva and Mabel (Fletcher) Heflin. James married Rebecca Sue Mifflin on April 30, 1991 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and they shared 31 years of marriage. James worked for CIPS for 33 years holding several positions prior to retiring in 2002, as the director of the H.R. department.

He was very active in the communities he lived in, having been a member of the Ingraham Fire Department for approximately 24 years and serving as chief for several of those years. He was also a first responder. James taught hunter safety courses for many years. He was very active in his church, having been a Sunday school teacher and assistant moderator for Hoosier Prairie Baptist Church which he was also a member of. He was very active in the Olney Baptist Church Association Camp, having held positions as secretary, treasure, and director for many years at camp.

James is survived by his wife: Rebecca “Becky” Heflin of Flora; 2 daughters: Renee (Bryce) Phillips of Ingraham, Amy Sue Wilson of Vinita, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law: Stacey (Jeremy) Brock of Oblong, Illinois; 8 grandchildren: Erin (Matt) Spence of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Dylan (Shelby) Heflin of West York, Illinois, Dallas (Ambrea) Glodo of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Tyler Heflin of Sacramento California, Jordan Warren of Flora, Angelia Warren of Evansville, Indiana, Landen Heflin of Oblong, Illinois, Liam Phillips of Ingraham; 8 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Judy Price of Thompsonville, Illinois, Marjorie (Robert) Stearns of Carbondale, Illinois, Jeanne Adkisson of Galatia, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by his parents; son: Alan Heflin; brother: Hubert Heflin; 2 brothers-in-law: Charles Price, and Bob Adkisson.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of James will be held at 12:00 pm Friday, February 24, 2023 at the McGriff Funeral Home in Louisville with Pastor Sam Neill officiating. Burial will follow at the South Muddy Cemetery, rural Jasper County. Visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home where friends may call from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in James’s memory to Clay County Cancer Crusaders or the Olney Baptist Church Association Camp.
