James A. Stice (97) of DeKalb, formerly of Altamont

James A Stice of DeKalb, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023.

He was born in Altamont, IL on January 31, 1926 to Earl and Edna (Klitzing) Stice.

Jim is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ruth (Eden) Stice. Father of Stephen Stice, Linda (Brad) Roberts, Sandra (Kurt) Nelson, Doug (Kathy) Stice and Barb Stice. Proud Grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather of 16.

Jim, being part of the Greatest Generation, proudly served in the Army during WWII, based in Hondo, TX. After the Army, Jim attended the University of Illinois, until the death of his father. At age 22, Jim left U of I and returned to Altamont Illinois to assume the role of President of the family business, National Trail Telephone Company. Under his leadership, Jim eventually sold National Trail to Continental Telephone. Over the next 50 years and multiple acquisitions, you arrive at what today is, Verizon. Jim was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His role as grandfather made him extremely proud. He would be quick to tell you that all 14 of his grandchildren attended college and graduated. Shortly thereafter he would tell you that each of those 14 grandkids had a job secured by their graduation. Jim attended every one of the grandkids high school graduations and their college graduations. Traveling throughout Illinois, to Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Texas, Kentucky and Alabama to watch his grandchildren accept their diploma and excited to watch them begin their jobs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Glen Stice and Betty LaFevers.

A memorial visitation will be held Tuesday February 7, 2023 from 3pm until 5:00pm, followed by a memorial celebration service at Anderson Funeral Home, 2011 S. 4th St, DeKalb, IL 60115.
