Royce E. Brown (70) of Effingham

Royce E. Brown, 70, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Monday evening, January 9, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 16, 2023 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Clare Catholic Church Cemetery in Altamont with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Royce was born on August 22, 1952, in Effingham, IL, the eighth (out of eight) son of Eugene and Doris (Rathgeber) Brown. Royce graduated from Effingham High School in 1970. He attended Lake Land College for a short time before joining the United States Army, serving from October 13, 1972 to October 11, 1974 with the 58th Military Police Company in Korea. He married the love of his life, Sarah Jean Coleman on November 14, 1987. Royce worked for the Poland Pontiac-Buick car dealership in Effingham for over 20 years.

Royce is survived by his sons, Dustin (Marissa) Brown, Patrick (Jaden) Brown, and Matthew (Kristin) Brown all of Effingham; his beloved grandchildren, Joel Wolfe, Alec Royce Brown, Keaton Turner, Elaine Sarah Brown, Jillian and Eva Toops, and Kimber Sarah Brown; brothers, Galen Brown and Dennis Brown both of Effingham, and Jerry “Jug” (Angela) Brown of Sebring, FL; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Brown, Betty A. Brown, and Betty B. Brown all of Effingham, and Pamela and Angela Coleman of Altamont; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sarah Jean (Coleman) Brown; his parents Doris and Gene Brown; his brothers, Lynn Brown, Noble “Bo” Brown of Trilla, Ronald Brown, and Larry “Lug” Brown; sister-in-law, Loleta Brown; and niece, Kelly Brown.
