Leroy Paul Frohning, age 85, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 1:23 PM Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at HSHS St Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, Illinois.    

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Mt Calvary Cemetery in Newton, Illinois, with military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM Monday, January 9, 2023, at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois. There will also be visitation 9:30-10:00 AM Tuesday, January 10, 2023, at the funeral home. In loving memory of Leroy, memorials may be made to the St Thomas School. Leroy was born on August 24, 1937, on the family farm, south of Newton, Illinois, the son of John and Leona (Rudolphi) Frohning. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Seiler on June 3, 1961, at St Joseph Catholic Church in Stringtown, Illinois. Betty preceded him in death on November 11, 2016.

Leroy graduated from Newton Community High School with the Class of 1956. He served his country in the United States Army, from February 18, 1959, until his honorable discharge on February 17, 1961.

Leroy retied from FS Service in 1999, after working for over 30 years.  

Leroy was a member of St Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus #1704. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed traveling, fishing, raising blackberries, playing cards, bowling, and trap shooting.

Leroy is survived by: Daughters – Linda (Bill) Clinton of Newton, Illinois; Teresa (Kevin) Ochs of Sainte Marie, Illinois; Cheryl (David) Matson of Newton, Illinois; Sandy (Roy Allen) Dhom of Newton, Illinois; and Leanne (Ben) Keller of Sainte Marie, Illinois; 13 Grandchildren; 10 Great Grandchildren; Siblings – Carl (Pauline) Frohning, Suzanne (George) Roth, John Frohning, Judy (Robert) Russell, and Mary Ann Gage.

Leroy was preceded in death by his parents, wife, siblings Mildred (John) Tabb, Raymond Frohning, Ethel Kautz and Fred Frohning.
