Elmer H. Opfer, 102, of St. Peter, Illinois passed away at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 27 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shobonier with a one hour viewing prior to the service. Pastor David Hoehler will be officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may go to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be left by clicking here.

Elmer was born December 27, 1919, at home in St. Paul, Illinois, the son of Heinrich and Sophia (Albrect) Opfer. He married Doris Clara Hinrichs May 4, 1941 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Shobonier. He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and held numerous offices throughout his lifetime. Elmer was a farmer his entire life and a friend of many. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Karen Lipsey (husband John) of Vandalia; grandchildren, Tony Lipsey (Ember), Dianna Gray (Gary), and Stacy Lipsey; Seven great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris Opfer; sisters, Emma Clausing, Anna Sasse, Edna Schukar and brothers Carl and Martin Opfer.
