James Edward “Jim” Hapner, 84, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 8:05 p.m. Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at HSHS Good Shepherd Hospital, Shelbyville, IL.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2022 in Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville, IL. Memorials may be given to Shelbyville Community Dialysis Center.

Jim was born on September 19, 1938 in Shelbyville, IL, the son of William Edward and Leoutis Craig Hapner. He married Phyllis Ann Dayhuff on April 10, 1961 and they enjoyed over 60 years of marriage. He was an auto body repairman for Randall’s Ford Dealership in Beecher City, Campbell’s GMC in Decatur, IL, owned and operated J & D Garage in Shelbyville and Leach Wilson Chevrolet-Buick in Shelbyville, IL, retiring in 2000. Jim and his wife, Phyllis, owned and operated the Rib House in Shelbyville from 1994-1997. He also managed the Windsor Gun Club, along with Bob Jones, for several years. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, trap shooting, and hunting for mushrooms and ginseng.

Jim is survived by his wife, Phyllis; son, Marvin (Sherry) of Mode, IL; daughters, Sheila Cook (Gerald) of Shelbyville, IL, Carole Roley (Joe Anderson) of Shelbyville, IL, and Terri Holland (Mike) of Shelbyville, IL; seven grandchildren, Kelly Jo Jones (Trent), Amanda Isley, Kaylee Yoder (Curt), Jessica Reed (Kris), Casey Schwenker, Maddie Holland, and Mallory Holland; and 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mabel Gatons; and one sister in infancy.
