Darlene Mammoser was born September 4, 1936, the only child of Neil M. Woods and Letha (Mendenhall) Woods in Newton, Illinois. Darlene graduated from Newton Community High School in 1954. She attended Eastern Illinois Teachers College and majored in business. In 1956, Darlene was hired as a secretary and bookkeeper to Van Fossan Oil Properties in Newton. On August 23, 1958 at St. Thomas Church in Newton she married the love of her life, Alvin Mammoser. Even though she started out as a town girl, she became a dairy farmer’s wife, working alongside her husband for 30 years. After selling their cows, Darlene had her own jewelry business and also worked for a local optometrist. At an age when many people are retiring, she became EJ Water’s first full time employee, eventually becoming the office manager and Mrs. Everything. Darlene loved sports, especially when her children and grandchildren were playing. Along the way they collected many school state championships. She was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Illinois Basketball, Newton Eagles, and on certain years, St. Anthony Bulldogs. She loved to travel, dance, tend her flowers, and being a member of the Island Grove Home Extension. Above all, Darlene’s faith was devout. She was a member of the St. Isidore Parish, St. Joseph Church Island Grove. Darlene served her parish on the ladies sodality, delivered meals on wheels, served as sacristan, volunteered at Catholic Charities, and helped anyone in need.

Darlene is survived by her husband of 64 years, Alvin Mammoser, her five children: Lisa (Martin) Hearne of Covington, Louisiana, Doug (Beth) Mammoser of Island Grove, Pat (Peggy) Mammoser of Newton, Steve (Jodi) Mammoser of Island Grove, and Stacy (Mike) Gibson of Effingham; her 13 grandchildren: Diana (Jon) Krusen, Nick (Kate) Mammoser, Katie (Jon) Mette, Eric (Dana) Mammoser, Scott (Maura) Mammoser, Mitch Mammoser, Brock Mammoser, Mark (Whitley) Mammoser, Jordan (Jordan) Hemrich, Rachel (John) Wendt, Matt Gibson, Drew Gibson, and Sydney Gibson; her 3 step-grandchildren: Angela (Doug) Conrad, Jason (Stacy) Hearne, and Amy (Kris) Kunkel; her 9 great-grandchildren; her 9 step-great grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law, Anna and Vincent Keck, Joe Nuxoll, and John and Pat Mammoser: and 9 nieces and nephews.
