Howard Martin Schwerdtfeger, 71, of Altamont, Illinois went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ peacefully Friday morning November 11, 2022, at 7:43 a.m. at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, Illinois.

Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday November 16, for family and friends at the Kull Funeral Chapel, Altamont with Rev. Dr. James F. Wright officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Memorials may be directed to the choice of the donor. Howard Martin Schwerdtfeger was born into the Christian family, one of three siblings, to Elmer and Paula Schwerdtfeger. He was born April 3,1951 in the Mark Greer Hospital, Vandalia, Illinois. Howard attended the Altamont Community High School, however at the age of 16 left to work on the family farm with his father and brothers. The family farm had be in their family for a number of years after all immigrated from Eastern Germany. 

Howard and his brother Robert continued in life raising cattle, milking, and grain farming, still living on the generational farm until his death. Howard attended the Immanuel Lutheran Church grade school, was baptized, and confirmed his faith in the Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Howard  is survived by his brothers, Robert Allen Schwerdtfeger of Altamont and James Edward (wife, Claudia Ann Cramer) Schwerdtfeger of Mt. Zion and numerous relatives in the Altamont area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Martin Schwerdtfeger and Paula Augusta Alwine Schroeder-Schwerdtfeger and grandparents, Martin and Anna Brauer-Schwerdtfeger and Edward and Martha Yagow-Schroeder.
