Virlene Elizabeth Mullinax, age 77, of Effingham, Illinois, passed away at Walter Reed Convalescent Center in Gloucester, Virginia, on Tuesday, June 7, 2022.

She was born October 26, 1944, in Effingham, Illinois, the daughter of Virgil and Virginia (Jacobs) Mullinax.

Virlene was a graduate of Effingham High School and later went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. During her career she worked at St. Anthony Hospital on the OB ward and Psychiatric ward. After leaving St. Anthony she worked for Dr. Louis Beis and then worked as the Industrial Night Nurse for Fedders. In the early 80s she began working at the family business (Virgil’s) but was later diagnosed with lupus and could no longer continue to work. She enjoyed going fishing, was an avid reader, and an antique and figurine collector. In 1993 she moved out to the Newport News area of Virginia and lived there until her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents Virgil and Virginia Mullinax.

She is survived by her two sons Bryant (Rachel) Brockett of Gloucester, Virginia; Thad (Carol) Brockett of Effingham; 7 Grandchildren; 10 Great Grandchildren.

There will be a service on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at 11:30am at the First Church of God, 2600 Banker St. in Effingham to celebrate and honor her life. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Lupus Foundation of America https://www.lupus.org/
