Wesley W. Hilligoss, 69, of Gays, Illinois departed this life much too soon Monday, August 8, 2022.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2022, in Windsor at Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home with Pastor Patrick Powers officiating.  Burial will take place in Cochran’s Grove Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service.  Memorials may be made to Ash Grove Christian Church or Windsor FFA Chapter and mailed to Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home, 207 N.Oak, Windsor, IL 61957.  Lovins-Lockart Funeral Home in Windsor is assisting the family.

Wes was a lifelong farmer, son, brother, coach, trusted friend and respected leader.  He fulfilled the roles of husband, father and grandfather best.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Debbie of Gays; son, Kevin (Emily) Hilligoss ofLovington; daughter, Kelly (Leroy) Schluter of Sidney; four grandchildren:  Wyatt and Will Hilligoss andReagan and Kennedy Schluter; brother, Darrell (Libby) Hilligoss of Windsor; sister, Connie (Greg) Harrisof Windsor and several nieces and nephews.  Wes was preceded in death by his parents, Warren andEleanor (Harpster) Hilligoss.

Wes was born on August 11, 1952, in Shelbyville, the son of Warren and Eleanor (Harpster) Hilligoss. He was a 1970 graduate of Windsor High School and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from the University of Illinois in 1974.  Wes married the love of his life, Debbie Horn, on June 3, 1972, at Ash Grove Christian Church in Windsor.  Wes was a farmer and co-owner of Hilligoss Trucking and Backhoe Service.  He was a lifelong member of Ash Grove Christian Church where he served and held various roles including Sunday school superintendent, deacon, elder and President of the church board.

Wes was an avid Chicago Cubs and Illini basketball fan.  He enjoyed coaching his children’s sports and attending all his children and grandchildren’s sporting events.  Wes’s life was centered by the things that he truly loved, his faith and his family.
