Philip Clyde Dooley (86) of Hidalgo

Philip Clyde Dooley, 86 of Hidalgo IL passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family at 7:25am Monday, July 11, 2022.
A Celebration of Life visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 am on Saturday July 16, 2022, at the Yale Church of Christ, with Military Rites being conducted by the Cumberland County Veterans following the visitation at 11:00 am. The Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL is assisting the family with arrangements.
“Phil” was born August 7th, 1935, in Cumberland County, Illinois, the son of Clyde and Mary (McElravy) Dooley. He married Velina (Walden) Dooley on Nov. 20th, 1954, she survives. Phil was in the U.S.A.F. for eight years and was a Korean War veteran. He and Velina were stationed all over before settling down in Hidalgo, IL to raise their family. Phil and Velina went on to own and operate different business. They were co-owners of the True Value D&M Hardware in Greenup, IL., Shoeland in Newton, IL and the local grocery store in Hidalgo, IL. He also worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator out of Local Union 841 in Terre Haute, IN up until retirement in 1994.
He leaves behind his wife of 67 years Velina; children, Jane Ann Chapman of Memphis,Tn., and Jody (Bret) Bierman of Hidaglo, IL; grandchildren, Kristin (Kevin) Radke, Mitch (Lindsey) Chapman, Philip Randall Dooley, Ross (Alex) Anderson-Dooley, Kyle (Jenny) Heuerman, Jordan (Brittany) Heuerman, Stetson Bierman; Great grandkids, Ella, Lily, Lola and Kruz Radke, Kayla, Jillian Grace, Nicholas, Owen and Piper Chapman, Drew and Korea AndersonDooley, and Kenzi and Kimber Heuerman; brothers, Dean Dooley of Bethalto, IL, Rick Dooley of Hidaglo, IL and his nieces and nephews.
Phil is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde & Mary (McElravy) Dooley, Dale and Lucille (Markwell) Walden, infant daughter Deborah Dooley, son Philip Stephen Dooley, and brother & sister in-law Glen and Mary Walden.
Phil was an avid fisherman who went fishing every chance he could. He also owned harness horses and enjoyed watching them race to this day. His classmates from Casey High School called him “Speed” as he held many track records until recent years. He was a member of the Yale Church of Christ. Phil was so proud of his grandkids and great grand kids and followed their successes throughout their events.
