Joyce L. Stein, age 62, of rural Brownstown, Illinois passed away at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10, 2022 at St. James Lutheran Church in Vandalia, Illinois. There will be a half-hour visitation prior to the service. Pastor Brad will be officiating. Burial will be at Stein-Stine Cemetery in St. James, Illinois. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Pagel Funeral Homes in St. Elmo. Joyce was born on September 26, 1959 the daughter of Raymond E. and D. Eileen (Murray) Devore. She was a woman of many talents; she enjoyed sewing bags, RV camping, flowers and plants, her Boston Terriers, and making memories with her family, especially taking her grandchildren on camping trips. She owned and operated The Elephant’s Attic for nearly 30 years in both Effingham and Vandalia. The Elephant’s Attic was voted best furniture and mattress store in Bond and Fayette County for the last 12 years. Joyce was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was secretary of the church council for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Brad Stein of rural Brownstown; her children, Samuel Ryan Yagow of Terre Haute, Indiana, Caleb Yagow (wife Stephanie) of St. Elmo, Lisa Hutson (husband Mike) of Nashville, Tennessee, Rodger West (wife Erin) of St. Elmo, Tricia Williams (husband Nathaniel) of St. Elmo, and Sheri Wallis (husband Josh) of Shelbyville; sister, Sharon Devore of Beecher City; step-sister, Vicki Wyres; step-brother, Carl Selby; grandchildren, Hailie, Jessica, and Kaitlyn Yagow, Landon, Addisyn, and Nadine Wallis, Presley and Benjamin Williams; aunts, Judy VanValen of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Peggy Cruikshank of Sturgis, South Dakota, Sheree Stevenson of Niles Michigan, Peggy Clark of South Bend, Indiana, Mary Gritzmaker of Greeneville, Tennessee, Kathleen Smith of Spencer, West Virginia; uncles, Chris Devan of Mishawaka, Indiana and Harold Maier of Mishawaka, Indiana; nephews, Alex and Dalton Devore; and her furbabies, Douglas and Jesse.
