Jim Clifford "Jimmy" Slifer, 87, of Beecher City, IL passed away at 9:19 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, in HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL with his loved ones by his side.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 17, 2022, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Beecher City with Pastor David Ducommon officiating. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Shumway with military rites by the Effingham American Legion Post 120. Memorials may be made to the Effingham American Legion Post 120 and mailed to Lockart-Green Funeral Home, 302 W. Main St., Shelbyville, IL 62565.

Jimmy was born on November 20, 1934, in Mode, the son of Dick and Mildred (Smith) Slifer. He was a veteran of the United States Army, stationed in Germany. Jimmy and Mary Frances Frey were united in marriage on December 28, 1957 and celebrated 60 years of marriage before her passing on September 3, 2018. Jimmy worked for and retired from Kraft Foods in Mattoon and farmed his entire life in the Beecher City area. He was a member of the Effingham American Legion Post 120. He enjoyed raising cattle with his grandchildren, playing the lottery, listening to gospel and old-time country music and Friday nights at Edgewood Opry.

Surviving are three children: Catherine (Bill) Bryant of Cincinnati, OH, Jean (Steve) Pieper of Stewardson and Brian (Karla) Slifer of Effingham; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and siblings: Richard, Paul, Wayne, Lila and Nancy.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Dick and Mildred Slifer; wife, Mary Slifer; son, Thomas Slifer; daughter, Cindy Slifer and siblings: Ralph, Russell, Max, Kenneth and Sue.
