Roy Lee Sowers, age 96, of Jewett, Illinois, passed away at 8:30 PM Monday, May 23, 2022, at Cumberland Rehab and Health Care Center in Greenup, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM (Noon) Friday, May 27, 2022, at the Jewett Community Church in Jewett, Illinois with Pastor Shane Peters officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the Jewett Cemetery in Jewett, Illinois with full military rites by the Cumberland County Veterans Association. In loving memory of Roy, memorials may be made to the Jewett Community Church. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home – Bishop Chapel in Greenup, Illinois. Roy Lee was born on January 25, 1926, in Jewett, Illinois, the son of Lee and Goldie (Miller) Sowers. He served his country in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946, during World War II. Roy married Leone Hardy on April 27, 1951, in Greenup, Illinois and she preceded him in death on April 5, 1988. Roy was a lifelong farmer and drove a school bus in Cumberland County for 21 years. He was a member of the Jewett Community Church. Roy enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.

Roy is survived by-4 Children - David (Brenda) Sowers of Jewett, Illinois; Joyce (Larry) Pharis of Jewett, Illinois; Dwayne (Donna) Sowers of Altamont, Illinois and Linda (Steve) Hesler of Jewett, Illinois; 5 Grandchildren – Lindsey (Anthony) Thompson, Sherry (Bill) Kearns, Kathleen (John) Anderson, Sara (James) Rodebaugh and Lacie (Dan) Baker; 10 Great-grandchildren – Jace Kearns, Jadynn Kearns, Jaxon Kearns, Jalayna Kearns, Kara Anderson, Kessa Anderson, Kaleb Anderson, Dominic Thompson, Kylee Thompson and Miles Baker; Sister – Marge Brummer of Jewett, Illinois.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Dean Sowers and sisters Doris Kingery and Genevia Jones.
