Thomas A. Stevenson, 90, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Friday, May 6, 2022, at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham followed by a private family graveside service at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham.

Memorials may be made to your local veterans’ organization or the Effingham County Humane Society because of Tom’s fondness for his dog Lacy. 

Thomas was born on January 27, 1932, in Effingham County, IL, the son of Loren and Madonna (McCallen) Stevenson. He married Loretta Flowers and to this union six children were born. He later married Ruby Kirk on February 16, 2001. Tom served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1954. During his time in the Navy, he also was on the Navy’s boxing team.

Tom was a good, kind-hearted man and a machinist for most of his life. After retirement, he was a correctional officer for Richland County working alongside his son Randy. He even delivered newspapers to stay busy. Tom loved baseball and the Chicago Cubs.

Tom is survived by his wife, Ruby Stevenson of Effingham; children, Connie Lecrone of Effingham, Randy (Debbie) Stevenson of St. Petersburg, FL, Danny (Karen) Stevenson of Watson, Lisa (Tony) Shaw of Panama City, FL, and Cheri (Greg) Walls of Mason; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Jack Stevenson and Joann Bernhard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Catherine Foote; daughter-in-law, Susan Stevenson; grandson, Adam Batchelor; great-grandson, Anthony Foote; and brother, Elmer Sparrow.
