Gerald W. Holste, 75, of Altamont, died at 4:50 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2022 at Aperion Care, Fairfield, IL.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2022 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Effingham with Rev. Dr. James F. Wright officiating with military rites to follow. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lutheran Care Center or the donor’s choice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Gerald was born on Wednesday, August 28, 1946 in Effingham, IL to Daniel W. and Edna (Reichert) Holste. He married Linda Schuster on June 12, 1966 at Blue Point Lutheran Church. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He worked for Don’s Refrigeration and Roger’s Home Appliances and also did carpeting. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. Gerald was a member of and past two-time commander of the Gieseking-Schwertfeger VFW Post #7676. He also belonged to the Grobengieser-Fischer American Legion Post #512 and the Disabled American Veterans.
In addition to his wife of over 55 years, he is survived by; his sons, Daniel W. (Rebecca) Holste, Effingham and Matt Holste, Altamont; daughter, Jerri Lynn (Robert) Blackburn, Muncie, Indiana; and 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by; his parents; daughter, Judith in infancy; and brother Donald Holste.
