Richard Aaron Carrell, age 46, of Effingham, IL. passed away at 5:10am Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at home.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday April 19, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo. Visitation will be on Monday April 18, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Toledo. Burial will be in the Toledo Cemetery.

Aaron was born on August 2, 1975, son of Dean and Patti (Lyons) Carrell, in Charleston, IL. He is survived by his father, Dean Carrell; mother, Patti (Skinnard) Thornton; son, Aidan Richard Carrell; daughters, Kyla Bree Thornton, and Anna Lyn Carrell; sister, Glenna Jo (Jason) Henderson; paternal grandfather, Wayne Carrell; nephews, Gabe, Evan, and A.J. Henderson; and one niece, Malory Henderson.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Charlotte Carrell, and his maternal grandparents, Richard “Dick” and Eloise Lyons.

Aaron worked at Patterson Technology Center as a Database Engineer since 2005. He also worked at Sherwin Williams, Wilb Walker’s grocery store, and at Lyons Lanes in Greenup, IL where he assisted his mother with various aspects of the bowling business. He was a 1993 graduate of Cumberland High School, then went on to attend Lakeland College. Aaron had a dry, yet witty sense of humor, that entertained everyone. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing pingpong and being involved in fantasy football. Aaron was a diehard fan of the L.A Raiders and the Chicago Cubs. He was also a self-proclaimed family domino champion. Aaron also enjoyed spending time at the river with his children at the family farm in Hidalgo and doing outdoor activities such as fishing and camping. He loved supporting his children and attending their sporting events and activities. Aaron’s children were always his number one priority. Aaron was a member of the Effingham Country Club and Christ’s Church in Effingham.
