David S. Lustig, 83, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.

Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2022 prior to the service at the funeral home.

David was born on August 1, 1938 in Mt. Vernon, IL, the son of Julius and Oneita K. Lustig. He married Becky Kemper on April 24, 1983. David graduated from Mt. Vernon High School, Rend Lake Junior College, and St. Louis College of Pharmacy.

David was a longtime pharmacist in the Effingham area as well as a Director at Washington Savings Bank for 35 plus years. He was a Standardbred Racehorse owner/breeder, and his two best horses were Sum Time DL and Susan Diane. This was his passion, and he truly enjoyed his horses. He loved his grandchildren and spending time with them going to horse shows and doing other activities. He was a member of both the Mt. Vernon and Effingham Elks Lodge and the Masonic Lodge.

David is survived by his wife, Becky of Effingham; daughter, Dr. Megan (Marshall Parkison) Lustig; step-son, Adam (Mary Belle) Wendling; grandchildren, Riyah Walker, Reiner Parkison, and Reata Parkison; step-grandchildren, A.J. Gernigin and Keith Walker; brothers-in law, Greg (Jane) Kemper and Mark (Diane) Kemper; sister-in-law, Laura (Randy) Niebrugge; nieces and nephews, Claire (Dr. Seth) Wasson, Kathryn (Mike) Elder, Connor Niebrugge, Calla Niebrugge, Carly (Ryan) Doppelheuer, Jack (Julia) Kemper; and 8 great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dr. Walter and Rosalie Kemper.
