Dempsey G. Jones, 91, of Louisville passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at his home in rural Louisville.

Dempsey was born on January 20, 1931, in Iola, the son of Herman and Nellie (Mears) Jones. He enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his Country from 1950 to 1954, then returned home and married Harriett Bateman on November 2, 1957, and they shared 44 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on August 2, 2002. Later he married Nancy Thompson on April 10, 2004, and she preceded him in death on January 6, 2005. Dempsey had worked in the construction industry as a concrete finisher for over 30 years. Dempsey loved to attend church and was a 60 plus years member of the Louisville First Baptist Church, where he was also a Deacon for many years as well. Dempsey was a big sports fan with the St. Louis Cardinals, Arizona Cardinals, and over the later years the St. Louis Blues being some of his most favorites. He was an avid fisherman, spending as much time as he could outside and going fishing with his brother Gary. Dempsey’s main joy was his family, he loved to have fish fry’s and make apple dumplings with his grandsons, they were his pride in joy.

Dempsey is survived by his son; Steven (Amy) Jones, of Pocahontas, 2 grandsons; Zach and Kyle Jones, both of Pocahontas, 2 sisters; Virginia Glover, of Louisville, Madonna Holloway, of Flora, 1 brother; Gary (Glenda) Jones, of Louisville, 2 sisters-in-law; Vivian Tolliver, of Louisville, Linda (Joe) Boswell, of Louisville, and he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Dempsey was preceded in death by his parents, and several brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services honoring the life of Dempsey will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Louisville with Pastor Kelly Carruthers officiating, and burial will follow at the Orchard Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the funeral home where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Dempsey’s memory to the Louisville First Baptist Church, and will be accepted through the funeral home.
