Betty A Helmink (80) of Lillyville

Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Helmink, 80 of rural Teutopolis, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 11, 2022, at Heartland Senior Living surrounded by her family.  

Betty was born on May 6, 1941, the daughter of Albert and Della (Cohorst) Bierman. She married John Helmink and they raised six children. She was employed by Teutopolis Unit 50 as a bus driver. Betty was known for her baking, quilting, and love of playing cards with family and friends.   

Betty is survived by her children, Mike (friend, Jody Hilton) of Lillyville, Judy (Rod) Niebrugge of Palm City, Florida, Sue (Steve) Brent of Lexington, Cindy (Dean) Kremer of Teutopolis, Tim (Sharon) of Effingham, and Bob (Dana) of Elk Grove Village. She was also survived by her twelve grandchildren, Kasi and Jake (Courtney) Helmink; Alyssa (Sam) Mysock and Jordan (Molly Hobbs) Niebrugge; Travis (Alison Baker) and Derek Meyer; Leah (Austin Hurt) and Adam Kremer; Clayton, Dylan and Emma Helmink; and Nora Helmink; and two great-grandchildren Carsyn and Ridge Helmink. She is also survived by one brother, Jim (MaryAnn) Bierman of Island Grove.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband John and sister Edna Probst, and her in-laws Paul Probst, Joe Helmink and Barb Deters.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Sacred Heart Church, Lillyville, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the church. Bauer Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
