Rhea Hartman, 90, of Shumway, IL, passed away Monday, March 7, 2022 at Heartland Senior Living in Neoga, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Strasburg. Visitation will be held from 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in loving memory of Rhea to St. John’s Lutheran Library, St. John’s Food Pantry, St. John’s Altar Guild, or the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be shared by clicking here.

Rhea was born in Jasper County on July 3, 1931, to Edwin C. and Cora M. Miller of rural Montrose. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church Island Grove, Wheeler, IL. Rhea was a 1949 graduate of Effingham High School and worked at Illinois Guarantee Savings and Loan. On October 14, 1951, she married Harold D. Hartman at St. Paul Lutheran Church Island Grove, Wheeler, IL. The couple moved to their farm in rural Shumway in 1953, where Rhea was a farm wife and they raised their family. Rhea was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham, the St. John’s Lydia Guild and the Wright Unit HCE.

Rhea is survived by her children, Ann (Mark) Musser of Beecher City, Lee (Karen) Hartman of Shumway, and Ray (Eileen) Hartman of Shumway; grandchildren, Tracie (Chris) Petzing, Joni (Mark) Flack, Kari (Devin) McManaway, Kenzia (Jeremy) Watson, Chad (Kristen) Hartman, Larissa (Tony) Jones, Melody (Tim) Schuette, Katie (Clayton) Hinton, and Kaleb Hartman and 21 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Miller of Montrose and Helen Miller of Effingham; and brother-in-law, Dwane (Maude) Hartman of Stewardson.

Rhea was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her brothers, Floyd (Leona) Miller, Howard Miller, and Glen Miller; and sister, Ruby (Harold) Giesler.
