David L. Tieffel (64) of Effingham

David L. Tieffel, 64, of Effingham, IL, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, casual wear is welcome. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham at a later date.

David was born April 13, 1957, in Effingham to Melvin and Mary (Campbell) Tieffel. He married Diane Whitley on March 24, 1979.

David was a man with a good sense of humor and a strong faith in God, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. His pride and joy were his family. Each grandchild held a very special place inhis heart. He would help anyone with anything he could. There was never a time he put himself first. He was a St. Louis Cardinals and Minnesota Vikings fan.

David lived in Effingham all of his life, graduating from Effingham High School in 1976.

He was first employed at World Color Press for over 28 years. After that he worked as a custodian for Effingham Unit 40 for 16 years. For 35 years he owned and operated D & D Lawn Service. He loved talking to people and he so enjoyed the conversations he had with his mowing men and ladies.

David is survived by wife, Diane Tieffel of Effingham; 2 children, Holly (Jeff) Wallace of Pontiac, IL and Ryan (Ashley) Tieffel of Effingham; 7 Grandchildren: Jordan Wallace, Hannah Wallace, Gavin Wallace,Macey Wallace, Kennedy Tieffel, Kinsley Tieffel and Kohen Tieffel (his John Deere mowing buddy).

David leaves sisters Shirley (Bud) Vonderheide of Stewardson, Mickey (Jerry) Koester of Teutopolis,Sandy (Don) Bingman of Effingham, Priss (Ed) Stephens of Cocoa, Florida, Debbie (Lyle) Kirby of Watson, twin sister Dianna (Nathan) Jones of Effingham, and Becky (Tim) Finfrock of Titusvile, Florida; brothers Bob (Gloria) Tieffel of Jackson, Tennessee, Don (Christa) Tieffel of Effingham, Dennis Tieffel of Effingham, Doug (Nila) Tieffel of Teutopolis, and Jim Tieffel of Taylorvillle; mother-in-law, Ruth Whitley of Effingham; sisters and brothers-in-law Lavonne (Bob) Ring of Effingham, Darla (Kurt) Miller of Troy, IL,and Paula Tieffel of Herrick, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Mary Tieffel; sister Dixie Kuhn; brothers JerryTieffel and Kent Tieffel and infant twin sister Norma and brother Melvin; nephew Kent James Tieffel;and father-in-law George Whitley.
