Hilda K. Webb (92) of Effingham

Hilda K. Webb, 92, of Effingham, IL, passed away Saturday, February 19, 2022 at home surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Watson Baptist Church in Watson. Burial will be in Watson Cemetery in Watson. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00p.m. Friday at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.

Hilda Kay was born September 4, 1929 to Mary (McElyea) and Wilbur Johnston in Kinmundy, IL. Hilda grew up in Dieterich, IL, the oldest and only sister of three brothers. As the oldest girl in her class in school, the teacher would have her help with the younger children and from there her love for teaching others grew.

Hilda and Dale were married on February 14, 1948 in her parent's living room and borrowed 5,000 dollars from her brother to build their first house. They opened Webb's Auto Body in 1960 and she worked in the office and did the books for the business until 1990. They raised five boys together and shared a wonderful life and memories until November 2013, when Dale passed away.

Hilda and her husband Dale were devout members of Watson Baptist Church. They were an integral part of the building and formation of their new church home in 1969. Hilda taught Sunday School for more than 50 years, one of her proudest and greatest accomplishments. Hilda's testimony and the words of God she spoke and lived so faithfully, touched countless souls and lives. Many lost souls have come to find Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior by her words and example of the Christ-like life she lived.

Hilda was an avid reader, very intelligent. She loved to collect beautiful porcelain dolls, her favorite season was Christmas, and nothing was better than a lemon milkshake. One of her favorite things to do was shopping with her friends and granddaughters. She always had a smile on her face.

Hilda is survived by her sons, Joe “JD” (Judy) Webb of Effingham; John (Vicki) Webb of Mesa, AZ, Elwyn Webb of Dieterich, Robert (Charlotte) Webb of Katy, Texas, and Jason (Julie) Webb of Altamont; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren;1 great-great-grandson; and her sister JoAnne Logue.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; grandson, Joshua Webb; and siblings.
