Edward R. Storck, 95, of Strasburg IL passed away peacefully at 2:23 a.m. Thursday, February 17, 2022, at the West Palm Beach VA Hospice Care Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Ed was born on March 1, 1926, in Bible Grove, Illinois. Ed enlisted into the USMC at Chicago, Ill, on June 20, 1944. Ed was a member of the American Marine Corps division that deployed to the invasion of the Volcano Islands of Iwo Jima (February 19 – March 26, 1945) as well as the US Occupation of Japan (September 1946). The Battle of Iwo Jima, or Operation Detachment, was a significant battle in which the United States Armed Forces fought for and captured the island of Iwo Jima from the Japanese Empire. This five-week battle comprised some of World War II's fiercest and bloodiest fighting in the Pacific and Operation Detachment is still considered one of the deadliest conflicts in U.S. Marine Corps history. Ed was always humble about his service in the USMC, but his country will always be grateful. Ed enjoyed his life living in Rural Strasburg on his 30 acres. Ed was eternally grateful for the wonderful neighbors and friends of the Stewardson/Strasburg area. Early in his life, Ed enjoyed Hunting and Horseriding. When he reached retirement, he would always enjoy it when the neighbors would stop in at the house to go for a horse ride, and really enjoyed the wagon rides.

Ed is survived by his son; Terry Storck, of Lake Worth, Florida, daughter; Tammy Barrett of Byron, Michigan, 5 grandchildren; T.J. Storck, Trisha Storck, Trudie Large (Storck), Ashley Moe, and Randy Barrett. He is also survived by 8 great grandchildren.

Funeral services honoring the life of Ed will be held at 12:00 p.m. Friday, February 25, 2022, at the McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Louisville, with Gene Birch officiating. Burial will follow at the Orchard Hill Cemetery, Louisville. Visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home where friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Ed’s memory to the American Legion Post #611, 106 South Pine, Stewardson, IL 62463 or to the Strasburg Lions Club, P.O.Box 212, Strasburg, IL 62465.
