Josie Lee Hiatt, 91, of Effingham, IL. passed away at 4:46pm Wednesday, February 9th 2022 at Heartland Senior Living Center in Neoga, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Monday February 14th with visitation an hour before services at Swengel - O'Dell Funeral Home in Neoga, IL.

She was born November 28th, 1930 in Warrensville, NC, the daughter of Dalphus and Edna (Turner) Black. She married Billie "Gene" Hiatt on January 21st, 1950 in BelAir Maryland. He preceded her in death on March 7th, 1999.

Josie leaves her daughters; Patty (Larry) Boggs of Effingham, Wanda Boggs of Effingham, Brenda (Bob) Simmons of Mason, Il; son Steve (Pam) Hiatt of Effingham, fifteen grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren, sister, Betty (Harry) Warren of North Wilkesboro, NC. and brother Walter (Bonnie) Black of Warrensville NC.

Josie was a member of the First Church of God in Effingham, Josie helped Gene on the family farm, she loved working in her flower and vegetable garden. Josie was a great cook and was well known for her blackberry cobbler, zucchini bread, cookies and noodles. Josie enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandchildren who affectionately called her GiGi.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene, sisters Bobbie(Junior) Musgrove, Jerlene (Rob) Testerman, JoAnn (Junior) Kennedy and son-in-law Don Boggs.
