Richard A. (Dick) Flach, 98, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Brookstone Estates of Effingham surrounded by his loving family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022, at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. The family requests that you please wear a mask for all services and practice social distancing guidelines.

Richard was born October 27, 1923, in Montrose, IL, the son of Robert and Ella (Bersig) Flach. He married Anna Marie Wiedman on August 12, 1947, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. She preceded him in death on November 8, 2016.

As a young man, Richard was an outstanding softball pitcher. Throughout his life he enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, bowling and golfing. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and a die-hard Cubs fan. He retired from Wente Plumbing and Heating in 1985.

Richard is survived by his sons, Philip (Karen V. Collins) Flach and Mark (Karen S. Klay) Flach both of Effingham; grandchildren, Aaron Flach (Alejandro Arango) of Chicago, Andrew Flach (Kayleen Carlson) of Lake Forest, IL, Tony (Sandy) Flach, Brian (Bethanie) Flach, Kevin (Mandy) Flach all of Effingham; and great-grandchildren Will, Layne, Jude, and Mercie of Effingham and Maeve of Lake Forest.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Anna Marie; brothers Reginald, Lambert, and Francis; and grandson Jason Flach; and great-grandson Austin Flach.
