Richard W. Hochdaffer, 82, joined his Heavenly community on January 21, 2022.

As everyone who met him knew, Richard was a faithful servant to his Lord. As many might not know, he also served his country in the United States Air Force Reserves and was a member of Knights of Columbus in Sullivan. He was a humble, private man who was a shining example of love to all who knew him.

Frequently seen in church holding his wife’s hand during Mass, serving for funerals, and sharing God’s word through lecturing and singing in the choir. He served as an example of a faithful husband, an understanding father, a lifelong friend, and a devoted Catholic.

He was married to the love of his life, Carol J. Dahmer on May 6, 1967. He was a loving father to R. Keith (Mylene) Hochdaffer, Denise Hochdaffer, and Joyce (William) Boggs. He was a fun-loving grandpa to Alex Boggs, Andrew Hochdaffer, Sami (Mitchell) Hoedebecke, and Matt Hochdaffer. He was PaPaw to his great-grandchildren: Leland, Ellie, Kyler, Lizzie, Wyatt, Jax, and Dawson.

Funeral services celebrating Richard’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham with a 10:30 a.m. rosary.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials may be made to St. Anthony Schools Scholarship Fund. Online condolences may be shared by clicking here
