James R. Shrake, 71, of Cowden, IL passed away at 11:40 a.m. on Friday, January 7, 2022, in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

Jim was born on February 21, 1950, in Shelbyville, the son of David Alvin and Betty (Galvin) Shrake. He was a 1968 graduate of Cowden High School. Through the years he worked as a carpenter and millwright. He enjoyed working on antique cars, especially Model A, and spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Surviving are his father, David Shrake of Cowden; brother, Stephen (Ramona) Shrake of Mattoon; sister, Wilda Harpster of Highland and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and greatnephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents and mother.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 13, 2022, in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Cowden with Pastor Nick Robertson officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will take place in Bob Doane Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Jim’s name to the Cowden First Responders and mailed to 302 W.
