Art was born on May 4, 1951 in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of Raymond and LaVange (Dunlap) Shuler. Art married his soulmate Cheryl (Hahn) Shuler on November 24, 1978. He was a thoughtful, loving and generous husband.

Art was always a positive person and referred to the good or bad events in life as an adventure. After graduating high school, Art enlisted in the Army in 1970 and was stationed in Germany. He later decided to pursue a degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. Once graduated, Art moved to Effingham in 1982 to open his own business, Shuler Chiropractic, which he operated with his wife, Cheryl. He maintained a passion for helping people and continued his practice for 35 years. He was a devoted Christian and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Over time, Art became an Elder at the church and served on several committees. In his free time, Art enjoyed studying martial arts for 26 years and eventually earned a third-degree black belt in Shudokan. He later went on to teach karate classes through Lake Land College. Above all, Art loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed watching his kids/grandkids play sports over the years, sharing his love of ice cream and having the whole family together.

Art is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cheryl Shuler of Effingham; children, Doug Shuler, David Shuler, and Amanda Shuler (fiancé Jon); grandchildren, Ella Shuler and Marshall Shuler; brothers, Larry (Pat) Shuler, Jack (Jean) Shuler, and Dale (Carla) Shuler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and LaVange Shuler; brother; James Shuler; in-laws, Julius and Bernetta Hahn; and brothers-in-law, Donald Hahn, Gerald Hahn and Mike Hahn.
