George Cedric “Ced” Wright, age 93, of Dieterich, Illinois, passed away at 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at his home. 

Funeral services celebrating Ced’s life will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at the Immaculate Conception Hall in Dieterich, Illinois, with Mike Elliott officiating.  Burial will be in the Dieterich Village Cemetery, with Masonic rites held at the graveside. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at the hall. There will also be visitation ½ hour before the service. In loving memory of Ced, memorials may be made to the Dieterich Community Center or the Dieterich Christian Church.  Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Dieterich, Illinois. George Cedric, better known to his family and friends as “Ced” was born on August 28, 1928, in Effingham, Illinois, the son of George Bradshaw “G.B” and Vera E. (Woody) Wright. Ced graduated from Newton Community High School in 1947. At an early age he joined in the family business, Wright’s Furniture and Wright Funeral Home which was established in 1889. Ced was a licensed Funeral Director and owned and operated the furniture store and funeral home for many years.Ced married Ruth I. Griffith on August 29, 1948, in Gila, Illinois. He and Ruth were inseparable best friends through their 73 years of marriage. They worked in the family businesses, supported their community and raised three children, always together.

Ced was very community minded and was always trying to better the town of Dieterich. He was involved in many organizations through his life and had been or was a member of the Dieterich Christian Church (former board member), Dieterich Community Development Corporation, Dieterich Ruritan Club (past president), Dieterich Commercial Club, Dieterich Fire Department (trustee and original member), Winterrowd Masonic Lodge #664 (72 year member, raised to Master Mason on December 1, 1949), 32 degree mason (Scottish Rite), Shriner and member of the Ainad Shrine of East St Louis (47 year member), Hillbilly Shrine Club, Jasper County Shrine Club, Effingham County Shrine Club, North Port, Florida Shrine Club, Dieterich Sportsbackers Club, Effingham Elks, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

Ced is survived by: 

Wife of 73 years – Ruth Wright of Dieterich, Illinois 

Children – Winona Kay (Lowell) Landrus of Crossville, Tennessee; G. Thomas (Linda) Wright of Dieterich, Illinois; and John W. “Juice” (Tammy) Wright of Dieterich, Illinois 

Grandchildren – Amy Edwards, Craig Landrus, Brandon Wright (Kelsey Gengler), Alex (Lindsay) Wright, Jessica (John) Colyar, Devin (Peyton) Wright and Taylor Wright 

Great Grandchildren – Christian Edwards, Griffin Edwards and one on the way in January 2022. 

Sister-in-law – Reba Griffith of Newton, Illinois 

Brother-in-law – Charlie Helmink of Montrose, Illinois 

Ced was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Claude and Rosa Griffith, brother-in-law Earl Griffith and sister-in-law Evelyn Helmink.
