Betty Mae Gaffigan, 97 of Effingham, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021 at Lavender Ridge in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 27, 2021 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to time of service, Saturday at the church. Memorial donations may be given to Meals on Wheels or the Effingham Veteran’s Memorial. Betty was born April 5, 1924 in Virden, the daughter of Ralph C. and Nellie B. (Brewster) Gray. She married Herbert T. Gaffigan Sr. on July 3, 1944 in Springfield and he preceded her in death in 2002. In 1951, they moved their family to Effingham. Betty was employed by Sangamo Electric in Springfield, the Ramada Inn in Effingham and she retired from B. Mansfield & Co. Inc. after 19 years. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham and a member and past president of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Betty is survived by her two sons, Herbert Jr. “Tom” (Marlene) of Maquoketa, IA and Jim (Theresa) of Bentonville, AR; daughters, Cheryl (Peter) Stenhouse of Charlotte, NC and Judy (Kent) Barnes of Effingham; grandchildren, Angie Evans, Lee Gaffigan, John Ring, Shannan Ring, Matt Barnes, Mandy Vergara, Aaron Gaffigan, Joe Gaffigan, Robert Gaffigan, Michael Gaffigan; sixteen great-grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband and granddaughter, Amber Ring.
