Stephen was born December 21, 1968 in Mattoon, the son of Carl W. and Janice (Buck) Pygott. He is survived by his sons, Ty of Charleston and Ian of Springfield; father, Carl W. (Betty) Pygott of Mattoon; brothers, Doug, John, Brad and Mike, all of Effingham. Stephen was preceded in death by his mother, Janice.

My dad was a very devoted family man, as Ian and I were his pride and joy. Dad was a giant part of our lives and made sure to be there for every single second. Anything good or bad that happened in our lives, dad was there. He loved us so much, and showed us every day through his kindness and patience. Monday night football will now never be the same. My father was also a very devoted Chicago Bears fan. He absolutely loved the game, and the Bears brought my dad so much joy, win or lose. If my dad was not hanging out with Ian and I, you would find him listening to his 80's hair metal music. Music was my father's second language. He LIVED for live music, especially his 80's hair metal bands. Dad also has a passion for cooking. He cooked out on his charcoal grill at least four times a week. Dad absolutely loved to grill anything, and he sure was good at it. Words cannot describe how much I will miss him. I love you, dad.    - Ty Pygott
