David H. Pals, 72, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 11, 2021 at his home in Teutopolis. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorial donations may be given to Crossroads Cancer Center or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Teutopolis.

Dave was born September 29, 1949 in Teutopolis, the son of Robert and Gertrude (Probst) Pals. He married Debra K. Backs on July 12, 1986. Dave graduated from Teutopolis High School and went on to earn his degree in Forest Resource Management from SIU-Carbondale. Later, he earned a degree in horticulture from Parkland College, and a pilot’s license in 1970. Dave farmed, ran Teutopolis Landscaping and was the owner and operator of Pals Arborist Service in Teutopolis. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis and a member of the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus. 

Dave is survived by his wife, Debra of Teutopolis; son, Ben of Toledo; brother, Mike (Judy) Pals of Teutopolis; sister, Luann (Sam) Field of Effingham; brothers-in-law, John (Teri) Backs of St. Ignatius, MT and Delbert (Kelly) Backs of Spencer, IN; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. 

Dave was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Henrietta (Moon) Backs and nephew, Brandon Backs.
