David L. Collins, 65, of Watson, IL, passed away on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL surrounded by loved ones. By being a Gift of Hope organ donor, David continues his legacy by improving the lives of others.

Memorial services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Please wear a mask for all services and follow social distancing guidelines.

David was born on July 28, 1956, in Effingham, IL, the son of Melvin L. and Bernadine Marie (Behl) Collins. He married Tammy White on January 3, 1976 at Watson Baptist Church.

Dave was a car guy and made that his life’s work. He owned and operated Mel’s Body Shop in Stewardson and Strasburg. He also worked as manager at TA Truckstop in Effingham and Foristell, MO. Dave was a National Elvis Tribute Artist performing many years all across the country and even in the Bahamas. Most importantly, Dave was a loving husband and uncle with a caring heart.

Dave is survived by his wife of 45 years, Tammy Collins of Watson; sisters-in-law, Taurina (Tim) Rardin of Florida and Judy Collins of Effingham; nephews, Blake (Mia) Rardin and Tommy (Amber) Rardin; nieces, Kim (Rich) Ohnesorge, Michelle (Kyle) Knop, and Jill (Jason) Hutchcraft; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Collins; and parents-in-law, Wes and Rheba White.
