Carol Lee Laatsch, 72, of Altamont, died at 11:54 a.m., Sunday, October 10, 2021 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont with Rev. Dr. James F. Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Altamont. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, October 15 at the church. Memorials may be made to ALIS, Lutheran Care Center, Immanuel Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice. Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Carol was born on Sunday, May 15, 1949 in rural Mason to James L. and Ethelyn C. (Leith) Wharton. She married William O. Laatsch on October 22, 1967 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Altamont. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and a volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels. Carol enjoyed painting Mandala rocks, spending time in her flower beds, camping, traveling & spending time with her family & friends.

She is survived by her husband of almost 54 years, Bill Laatsch of Altamont; sons, Tim (Jane) Laatsch of Altamont, Doug (Christel) Laatsch of Green Bay, WI, and Joe (Kim) Laatsch of Altamont; daughter, Jill (Dustin) Thornton of Trilla; brother, Elwin (Marilyn) Bushue of DeKalb; sisters, Zetta (Don) Haag of Effingham, Judy (Bob) Mayhaus of Altamont, and Marlene (Edward) DeWeese of Mason; 7 grandchildren, Will, Cori, Emma, Lily and August Laatsch, Charlee Thornton and Calvin Bouas; great grandson, Leo Owen.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Bushue.
