William L. Clark (92) of Louisville

William L. Clark, 92, of Louisville passed away at 12:55 a.m. Friday, October 8, 2021 at the Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois.

William was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on September 3, 1929, the son of Artella and Madeline (Gregory) Clark. He married Joan Thomas on November 6, 1954, in Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, and they shared 61 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on September 6, 2016. Bill was a U.S. Army Veteran, having also been in the National Guard with a total of 7 years of military service. Bill joined the Army at the age of 17 serving in WWII. He also was in Korea for a time, while there he worked some in the medical fields in Korea. While serving in Korea he was wounded and received a Purple Heart for his sacrifice, he also guarded the “Freedom Gate”. His time spent in the military was said to be Bill’s proudest achievements. After serving his time in service he and his wife left and moved back to St. Louis where he worked as a Lt. for the St. Louis Police Department for over 20 years. Bill had several hobbies he liked to do in life and some include fishing, painting, and he owned his own saloon. He loved his dog ZuZu very much and was a great companion for him in his later years. Bill was a commander of the Ste. Genevieve, Missouri American Legion Post 150, and a 50+ year member of the American Legion.

Bill is survived by his son; William Clark, of Washington, DC, daughter; Margaret Broome, of St. Charles, Missouri, 9 grandchildren; Kevin (Chelsea) Clark, Jr., Sarah (Rich) Matlock, Heather Clark, Maggie (Bill) Adams, William Clark, John (Loran) Hanlen, Shayne Hanlen, Samantha (Joey) Kopsic, Madeline Young, 23 great grandchildren.

Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his parents, son; Kevin Clark, Sr., sister; Nellie Jo, and his other beloved dog; Mollie.

It was Mr. Clark’s wishes for cremation and a service will be held at a later date with burial at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 150 Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. The McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Louisville is assisting the family with the arrangements.
