Lester Allen Fulk, 64 of Strasburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with military rites to follow.

Lester was born December 7, 1956 in Mattoon, the son of Ralph and Rosella (Joliff) Fulk. He grew up in Stewardson and attended Stewardson Grade School and graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School with the Class of 1975. He joined the Air Force shortly after graduating in 1975 and served for 5 years. After that, he transferred to the Navy and served 15 years, in which he met the love of his life, Lynie Fulk, overseas. Being pen pals for 2 years, they eventually met in Hong Kong, where after 4 days, Lester knew she was the one and proposed. He married Lynie on January 21, 1992 in Effingham. They were witnessed by Lester’s mother, Rosella and aunt, Jane.

Lester retired from the military in September of 1995. Some of his military achievements include Air Force Commendation Medal and Navy Achievement Medal. After retirement in 1995, Lester and Lynie bought a house in Stewardson where they lived until 2005 and then moved from Strasburg. He worked at Fedders Corp. for 3 years, Nova Solutions for 5 years and at Taylorville Correctional Center for 20 years, until his retirement in 2019.

Family and friends were all very important to Lester. Anything his family wanted, as well as Lynie’s family in the Philippines, he provided for them as best he could. He always put them first in his life. He took pride in watching his kids grow up. He enjoyed golfing with his wife, son and friends. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his brother, Richard Fulk and best friend, Don Forsyth. And last, but certainly not least, he loved playing with his granddaughter, Brooklyn, and teaching her to be very kind and loving to others as he was.

Lester is survived by his wife, Lynie Fulk of Strasburg; mother, Rosella Fulk of Effingham; mother-in-law, Conchita Baliton of Strasburg; daughter, Jennifer Fulk of Strasburg; son, Justin (Kendall) Fulk of Effingham; brother, Richard (Camelia) Fulk of San Antonio, TX; sister, Tammy (Mike) Randall of Beecher City; granddaughter, Brooklyn Paige Fulk as well as nieces and nephews.
