Dorothy M. Locke, 99, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service at the funeral home. Please wear a mask for all services and practice social distancing guidelines.

Dorothy was born on September 5, 1922, in Winfield, MO, the daughter of Willie and Iva Pearl (Day) Wilson. She married Thomas R. Locke on October 29, 1942 in Wheaton, IL. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1974.

Dorothy worked as a waitress at The Steak House in Effingham for 20 years and was a clerk at the 76 Truck Stop for 14 years. She was a dedicated member of First Christian Church in Effingham. She was a devoted wife and mother. Dorothy loved her children and dedicated her life to raising her children and helping others.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Ronald L. Locke (Linda) of New Athens, Donald D. Locke (Karen) of Redland, CA, and Dwayne L. Locke (Sheri) of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren, Michelle Locke, Edward (Tina) Locke, Lisa (Paul) Pounderier, Katrina (Michael) Watson, Robert Locke, Phillip (Holly) Locke, Kevin (Amanda) Locke, and Brian Tresenriter; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Eugene Wilson; and sisters, Velgene Shanks, Mary Taylor, Carol Hoffmann, and Joyce Hoffmann.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Marvin Day and Jess Wilson; and sister, Laura Vaughn.
