Emily Josephine Young, 88, of Effingham, formerly of Strasburg, passed away at 10:27 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at Brookstone Estates, Effingham, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 10, 2021 at Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL with Mike Giertz officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Grace Cemetery, Strasburg, IL. Memorials may be given to Crossroad Cancer Care in Effingham or Strasburg Park Fund. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Strasburg, IL.

Emily was born on April 23, 1933 in Moultrie County, IL, the daughter of Charles John and Nina Nell (Neff) Mulvaney. She graduated from Stewardson-Strasburg High School in the Class of 1951. Emily married G. Dale Young on December 24, 1950. Emily and Dale owned and operated Youngscraft Cabinets from 1953-1981 and The Trestle from 1981-1986 both in Strasburg. She later was a material handler for Poly-Pak and Ship, Inc. in Vandalia for over 20 years. She moved from Vandalia to Brookstone Estates in Effingham in 2019. She enjoyed bowling, quilting, jigsaw puzzles, and attending her family’s sport events.

Emily is survived by her daughters, Vickie Miller of Effingham, IL, Sheryl Duncan and husband Gary of Strasburg, IL, and Marla Brandt and husband Franklin of Strasburg, IL; sisters, Mary Childress of Trilla, IL, Owen Phelps of Supply, NC, and Lela Friese (Donald)of Stewardson, IL; sister-in-law, Eileen Bridges of Windsor, IL; four grandchildren, Kyle Duncan (Laura), Kayla Duncan, Natasha Harris (Steffen); and Clayton Brandt (Kelly); step-grandchildren, Tracy Rickman (Eric), Todd Miller (Jenny), and Justin Miller (Alexis); great grandchildren, Parker, Jacob and Lucy Duncan, Liam and Isabella Harris, Rylee Brandt, and two new babies on the way; step-great grandchildren, Craig Spearman (Melissa), Cadie and Braden Rickman, Nyla, Cardyn and Keaton Miller, Lillie and Lane Miller; and step great great grandchild, Hazel Spearman and one new baby on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Michael Dale Young; son-in-law, Tom Miller; brother, David Mulvaney; brothers-in-law, Dean Childress, Adrian Phelps, Merl Rincker and Roger Bridges; and sisters-in-law, Frances Mulvaney and Mary Louise Rincker.
