Aaron Lamar “Butch” Yates, 72, of Kinmundy passed away at 2:30 a.m. Friday, September 3, 2021 at his son’s home in West Frankfort, Illinois.

Aaron was born on March 23, 1949, in the Vandalia Hospital the son of Laurel L. and Neva Marie (Ritter) Yates. He married Marie Pearl Scribner on January 23, 1971, at the Broadway Christian Church in Salem and they shared 50 years of marriage. He had worked many various job over the years including working for fertilizer company in Alma, Salem FS, he helped many farmers over the years, and had worked as a drywaller and insulation installer for Roy and Pam Bower Insulation. Butch had many things he loved to do when he wasn’t working like coon hunting, he raised his own Beagle dogs for hunting he raised rabbits, chickens, and had 2 Belgian Draft horses and won 1st place in the Kinmundy Labor Day Parade with them.

Butch is survived by his wife, Marie Yates, of Kinmundy; 2 children, James (Jennifer) Yates, of West Frankfort, Illinois, Mark Lee (Tina) Scribner, of Kinmundy; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren, 5 siblings, Sandra Hancock, of Salem, Sharon (Bill) Cash, of Iuka, Rita (Danny) Neaville, of Iuka, Tracie Fisk, of Iuka, and Brenda (Keith) Mount, of Kinmundy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Yates was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, John Hancock; sisters, Phyllis Gray, Patricia Jamison and husband Ronnie Jamison.

Funeral services honoring the life of Butch will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, September 10, 2021 at the McGriff & Triplett Funeral Home in Kinmundy with Lonnie Tipsword and Bill Cash officiating, burial will follow at the Elder Cemetery, rural Kinmundy. Visitation will be held on Friday morning at the funeral home where friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Kinmundy/Alma EMT’s.
