Brett R. Kull, 60, of Shelbyville, IL formerly of Strasburg, IL, passed away at 7:28 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2021 in his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2021 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Strasburg, IL, with Rev. Kene Whybrew officiating. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 am Tuesday in the church. The family would appreciate the wearing of masks and social distancing for the visitation and funeral. Burial will be in Grace Cemetery, Strasburg, IL. Memorials may be given to the E.A.S.T.E.R. Program in Effingham, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Strasburg or the SCCS Bell Choir.

Brett was born on December 27, 1960 in Effingham, IL, the son of Richard Gene and Joyce Ethel (Reel) Kull. He attended Armstrong School in Mattoon, IL. Brett worked in the DT program at Shelby County Community Services in Shelbyville, IL, for many years. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Strasburg for his entire life and E.A.S.T.E.R. in Effingham for over 40 years. Brett was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed attending Vacation Bible School and participating in Special Olympics.

He is survived by his sisters, Gloria Fortkamp (Rev. Gary) of Effingham, IL, and Deanna “Dee Dee” Batson of Shelbyville, IL; Aunt Doris Stremming of Effingham, IL; four nieces, Sara Long (Eric) of Altamont, IL, Gina Vonderheide (Travis) of Shumway, IL, Lisa Shelton (Brian) of Strasburg, IL, and Johanna Batson of Shelbyville, IL; nephew, Bryson Batson of St. Louis, MO; four great nieces; four great nephews; and many cousins.

Brett was preceded in death by his parents.

Brett’s family would like to thank the staff of the Bogard House in Shelbyville and the workers in the DT program for the care, concern and love they have shown to Brett.
