Candace Joy Stuemke 73 years old, of Altamont passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon July 31, 2021 at 1:53 PM at the Critical Care Unit at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, Illinois.

Funeral Services will be conducted Wednesday Morning August 4 at 11:00 AM at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont with the Rev. Dr. James F. Wright officiating. Visitation for family and friendswill be conducted from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm on Tuesday August 3, 2021 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church and again for one hour or from 10:00 am until the funeral service time of 11:00 am on Wednesday morning at the church. Christian Burial Rites will be conducted at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Altamont immediately following the funeral service.

Candace was born into the Christian family one of seven children of Earl and Marion Weiherman-Rissman. She was born on December 12, 1947 in Aurora, Illinois. She was baptized and confirmed her faith in Our Savior Lutheran Church, Aurora, Illinois. Candy graduated from Aurora high school with the class of 1965 and furthered her education with classes at SIU Carbondale. While employed as a secretary for the Pag Seed Company in Aurora she met Charlie who was serving his college internship. Later Charlie and Candy were married at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Aurora on May 17, 1969 by the Rev. Gilbert Klomhaus and remained married for 52 years. Candy spent her life in the local area as a home maker and with her husband raised a family of 2 children. She was member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she served on the alter guild and the flower committee. She was a past member and officer in the Altamont Jr. Women’s Club. Candy doted on and loved all her children and grandchildren beyond measure. She was called “Mimi” by her grandchildren, who loved her hot chocolate and lemonade. She especially enjoyed watching her grandsons play baseball and basketball. She was always ready to watch her granddaughters play softball, gymnastics, and dance routines. She enjoyed golfing with her friends along with many happy hours doing puzzles, crafts, and word scrabble. Christmas was always a special time of the year for her, collecting angels, coffee cups along with knitting blankets for the granddaughter’s dolls.

Memorials may be directed to the Who Hoo Sisterhood, Immanuel Church worker scholarship program and or the Lutheran Care Center.

Candy is survived by her: Husband: Charles Edward Stuemke of Altamont, Illinois; Son: Philip Ryan (wife, (Shannon) Stuemke of Effingham Illinois and their daughters Madison and Mackenzie; Daughter: Diana Marie (husband, Louie) Robbins of Altamont, Illinois and their sons Jacob, Tyler, and Ethan; Brother: John (wife, Karen) Rissman; 5 Sisters: Pam Paszotta, Linda (husband, Jim) Martin, Sandy (husband, Greg) Stafford, Dee (husband, Tom) Schuman, Dot (husband, John) Mackay; Several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: Carl Trost, Laverne Stuemke-Trost, Harold Stuemke; Parents: Earl Rissman and Marion Weiherman-Rissman; 3-Brothers-in-law: Ferd Sugent, Richard Paszotta, Don Hiser.
