Colin L. McClain, 72, of Paris, IL, formerly of Shelbyville, IL, passed away at 12:43 p.m. on Monday, July 19, 2021, in Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL, with loved ones by his side.

Colin was born on September 3, 1948, in Shelbyville, the son of Carl Franklin and Norma Lorene (Gordon) McClain. He was a 1966 graduate of Shelbyville High School. Colin went on to serve his country in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He then earned his Bachelor of Science from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale before joining the Illinois State Police where he worked for 26 years before retiring in 2002. Colin and Paula Julian were united in holy matrimony on May 17, 2006 and were blessed with 15 years of marriage. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 5975 of Marshall, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and Grace Lutheran Church in Paris. Colin was known to be a generous supporter of many different organizations. He enjoyed photography, traveling and time shared with loved ones.

Colin was strong, gentle, kind, generous, honest, faithful and humble in all that he did. He was a loving and attentive husband, a deeply devoted dad, nurturing grandfather and a caring and loyal son, brother, uncle and friend. The world was a better place with him in it and he will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Paula McClain of Paris; children: Jeff (Georgeanne) McClain of Fredericksburg, VA, Sarah (John) Hurley of Cary, NC, Brenda (Michael) Martin of Paris and Brian (Angela) Blair of Bella Vista, AR; seven grandchildren: Jacob, Taylor, Tyson, Karson, Addison, Braelynn and Briar; three brothers: Dennis McClain, David (Nancy) McClain and Tim McClain, all of Shelbyville and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Kelley McClain.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021 in Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 24, 2021 with Pastor Dan Smith officiating in the funeral home. Burial will take place in Glenwood Cemetery with military rites performed by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials may be made in Colin’s name to the Shelbyville Area Community Foundation, %Chautauqua Auditorium and sent to Lockart-Green Funeral Home, 302 W. Main St., Shelbyville, IL 62565.
