James Leroy Deweese, age 76, of Kinmundy, Illinois passed away at 7:36 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2021 at Decatur Memorial Hospital in Decatur, Illinois.

Funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. Friday, July 23, 2021 at Pagel Funeral Homes in Edgewood, Illinois. There will be a two-hour visitation prior to the service. Burial will be at the Oakridge Cemetery in Effingham, Illinois. Memorials may go to American Heart Association, American Stroke Foundation, or the donor’s choice. James was born on August 29, 1944 in Mattoon, Illinois, the son of Roy L. and Sarah M. (Davis) Deweese. He married Mary Lou Lewis on June 18, 1966; she preceded him. He was a licensed HAM radio operator. A member of the NRA. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, mushroom hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. He was a many of many talents, including mechanics, carpentry, and amateur boxing.

He is survived by his sons, Richard Deweese (fiancé Chrissy) of Indiana, William Deweese of Kinmundy, Illinois, Timmy Summers (wife Amber) of Salem, Illinois, Jerry Summer of Salem, Illinois, Stoney Lewis of Vandalia, Illinois, and Lowell Wilson (wife Rachel) of Kentucky; daughters, Hope Lindsey of Kinmundy, Illinois and Paula Deweese of Salem, Illinois; several other foster children; brothers, Ed Deweese (wife Marlene) of Mason, Illinois, Paul Deweese (wife Carol) of Argenta, Illinois, and Leo Deweese (wife Becky) of Funkhouser, Illinois; sisters, Sarah Elam of Watson, Illinois and Pat Green (husband John) of California; and 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Jeremy Deweese; daughters, Constance Deweese and Jessica Deweese.
