Kay Sidwell 81 of Greenup, IL went to her heavenly home at 2:25 am on Sunday July 18, 2021, surrounded by her family while in the care of HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Kay was born April 22, 1940, to Lee and Opal (Cox) Myers in Woodbury, IL. She graduated from Cumberland High School in 1958 and married her high school sweetheart Don Sidwell shortly after on June 1, 1958. Kay met her sweetheart while working as a server at the Farm Truck Stop east of Greenup. While working alongside Don on the farm, Kay took employment at the Ruge` (later the Martinique) women’s wear store in Greenup, the County Treasurer’s Office, the Red Shed Restaurant in Casey, two different flower shops in Casey, and the Toledo Democrat. Kay was active in the Cumberland County Women’s Committee of the Farm Bureau, served on the Executive Council of the Illinois Extension Service in Cumberland County, was a member of The Friendly Neighbors Home Extension Unit as well as serving on the Board of Directors of the Cumberland County HEA. Her hobbies included sewing and crocheting, she sewed a wedding dress for her niece, a miniature bride’s dress for her granddaughter as well as designed and made custom wedding decorations for her family. She crotched many intricate afghan patterns which her family still enjoys today. She also enjoyed her prize-winning Poodle Yvette whose ashes will be buried with her.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years Don, Sons Gregory (Thawaree) Sidwell of Newton IL and Phillip (Araya) Sidwell of St. Peters MO. Grandchildren Ryan (Katherine) Sidwell of McCordsville, IN and Marissa Sidwell of St. Peters, MO. Sisters Linda (Thomas) Petty of Tempe, AZ and Connie (Michael) Tate of Newton, IL as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Shirley who died in infancy and Carolyn (Warren) Tatge of Yorkville, IL as well as by her Granddaughter Kyra Sidwell of Newton, IL.

Barkley Funeral Home in Greenup are in charge of the services. Visitation will be from 9:00 am – 11:00 am on Wednesday July 21, 2021. Rev. Stephen Willis will officiate the funeral at 11:00 am. Burial will be in the Macedonia Cemetery in rural Casey. The Family requests that all attendees wear masks in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
