James Edward Harrell, 88, of Flora passed away at 1:00 AM Sunday, June 6, 2021, at the Flora Gardens Care Center in Flora.

James was born on April 15, 1933, in Xenia, the son of James Pearl and Esther (Block) Harrell. James served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korea era. He married Catherine Gibbs on June 10, 1966, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Flora, and they shared 44 years of marriage before she preceded him in death on July 3, 2010. James worked various jobs over the years including construction jobs out of the hall and then worked and retired from World Color Press in Effingham after 20 years. James loved to travel, and to take care of his flowers and garden.

James is survived by 2 sons; Chris (Nancy) Harrell, of Jacksonville, Florida, Steve (Jennie) Harrell, of Flora, 3 grandchildren; Matthew (Valerie) Harrell, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Madison Harrell, of Flora, Trenton Harrell, of Flora, and 2 great grandchildren; Ethan Harrell and Evan Harrell.

Mr. Harrell was also preceded in death by his parents.

Graveside memorial services to honor the life of James will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 11, 2021, at the Floral Garden of Memory, Flora, with Brenda Byers, and Bruce Horsley officiating, burial will follow with military honors. There will be a visitation Friday morning at the cemetery where friends may call from 10:30 to 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Clay County Cancer Crusaders or the HSHS Hospice of Effingham.
