Leland Eugene (Gene) Salyers, 75, of Henderson passed away January 21, 2021 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 2021 at the Honey Cemetery, Bogota, Illinois with Rev. Amy Jeffries officiating. Military rites will be offered by Jasper Post No. 20 of the American Legion. Burial will be in the Honey Cemetery. Crain Funeral Home, Newton is assisting with the local arrangements.

Gene was born June 22, 1945 at home in Jasper County, IL to the late Burton and Bessie Salyers. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and proud member of the NRA.  He was a Kentucky Hunter Education Master Instructor, a member of the Daniel Boone Sportsman Club, former Local Emergency Planning Committee Chairman, previous member of the Kentucky Water Board, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was retired from the United States Navy and after that worked as an Environmental Consultant.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his brothers, George Salyers, John Salyers and his wife, Cressie and sister, Stella Salyers.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ann Salyers; four children, Kevin Salyers (Tiffany), Tammy Salyers (Brent Newman), Anita Zenda (Kevin), Chad Salyers (Nathan Hocker); seven grandchildren, Cecilee Salyers, Allison Moeser-Minor, Dalton Minor, Haylee Jones (Nick), Corey East (Emily Beck), Cole East, Madalyn Miller (Nolan); seven great grandchildren, Nayleigh Sauer, Max Sauer, Winston Jones, Rylee Jones, Konner Minor, Karsyn Minor and August Leigh Jones to be born in August of 2021; brother, Richard Salyers and wife Carol Ann; sister, Linda Meyer and husband Steve and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Niagara United Methodist Church or Henderson Diabetes Foundation.
